Rhinoceros III was formed in 2016 in San Diego, California by Paul Naylor, Eric Russelle and Michael Chiles. Each of us have played in numerous bands and projects in the San Diego, and Portland, oregon metro areas as far back as the 1990s. We met serendipitously through the kindness of friends, and the luck of the right Craigslist ad at the right time.
 
The band was formed out of a need to make music around the edges of our busy lives. with demanding careers and beloved families at the center of our routine, Every opportunity to create, practice and record our own original material sometimes feels like it’s time stolen, and is incredibly precious to us.
 
The music is not precious though. It is rough but firm in its conviction for sincerity. It is loud, demanding, but wise. There is kindness in our assault against a dark dynamic at work in the world and throughout history.

our style and hard earned voice is all analog. We are in every note we hit. Our sound varies anywhere from somewhat,... to very distorted. Pushing back. In control, but at the boundary of wild and civil. It shares stories of conflicting emotions.
If one had to categorize us, we would prefer post hardcore, grunge, alternative rock, in that order.
we would say the music is like medicine. Play loudly and with passion. repeat until symptoms resolve.
